CHILDREN MARTHA JANE BARNES, born 11 December 1879 in Gateshead-on-Tyne, Durham, England, died 14 March 1926 in West Endicott, Broome, New York of lobar pneumonia. Martha Barnes married Arthur Trevethick on 6 October 1900 in Christ Church, Gateshead, Durham, England. She is buried in the Spring Forest Cemetery, Mygatt Street, Binghamton, Broome, New York next to her husband, with an inscribed headstone. Martha Jane Barnes was the daughter of William Barnes, an engine driver from Gateshead. At the time of her marriage, she was 21 years of age and resided at 43 Prince Consort Road. She arrived in America on 24 June 1911 in New York aboard the SS Mauritania from Liverpool at the age of 31. The notation on entry indicated that she was a housewife who could read and write. Also noted was the fact that her grandmother lived at Windsortes, Prince Consort Road, Gateshead, Durham. She noted her final destination as Scranton, Pennsylvania.
